P/U*): Punjabi/Urdu double version films. Same film but released in two different languages.

Please note that:

  1. Single English and Hindko movies were released in 1976 and 1980 respectively. 2 Gujarati movies were release as well.
  2. All released Pakistani films are included in the tally despite the fact that some of films only were released in Sindh/Baluchistan or Punjab/NWFP circuits.
  3. All Bengali films released during the periode of united Pakistan (before seperation of Bengladesh from Pakistan) are included under "Bengali" films. But Urdu films made in Dacca (Dhaka, Bangladesh) are included in "Urdu" films tally.
  4. Pakistani film production centre is now only the second largest city in the country - Lahore (therefore Pakistani films are also called "Lollywood") but in the golden era in the 60's and 70's, Karachi and Dakha produced some remarkable films as well.

About this site...

The Film Ranking
The film ranking has been very controversial in Pakistan, because some films were superhit in one circuit (Lahore or Karachi) but totally failed in the other circuit. Urdu films are preferred in Karachi and in other Urdu speaking areas but Punjabi films are always dominating in the major part of Pakistan, especially in the largest province of Punjab. Pashto films are mainly successful in NWFP or Peshawar areas.

All hit films in these circuits are mentioned as successful films. Some of flop or average films are very high qualities masterpieces and many of them are all time great musical memories. I have compiled most of these gems but need more information's on other films.

Definition's of jubilee movies

A Diamond jubilee film is always a mega hit film, which shows more than 100 weeks continuously on cinemas in a single city. "Solo" means all weeks on a single cinema and "combined" is total weeks on all cinemas. Four Pakistani films were "Solo Diamond Jubilees" Aaina, Moula Jatt, Sher Khan and Sala Sahib. The first combined diamond jubilee film in Pakistan was Zarqa in 1969.
A Platinum Jubilee film is a super hit film, which shows minimum 75 weeks continuously on cinemas in a single city. The success measure for a super hit film is minimum six months release on its main cinema. The first platinum jubilee film in Pakistan was Jeedar in 1965.
A Golden Jubilee film is a hit film, which shows 50 weeks continuously on cinemas in a single city. The success measure for a hit Golden Jubilee film is minimum four months on its main cinema. A Solo Golden Jubilee is always a mega hit film as the first ever golden jubille film Sassi in 1954.
A Silver Jubilee film is an average film, which shows 25 weeks continuously on cinemas in a single city. The success measure for a Silver Jubilee film is minimum 10 weeks on its main cinema. A Solo Silver Jubilee is always a super hit film as film Pheray was in 1949.

Film chronicle:
The main source to the film chronicle on this site is from some film directories compiled by Pakistan's famous film journalist and producer Mr. Yasin Goreeja (who died in December 2005). He did a great job for film lovers to compile these records in his Urdu film directories.

Film Posters:
Film posters are mainly copied from Mr. Omer Ali Khan's website www.thehotspotonline.com who also sells these posters in big sizes. Thanks to him too..!

Music videos
:
I'm also really grateful to all those music lovers, who uploaded old film videos on the great entertainment site YouTube.com and made it possible for me to show these gems on this site.

Also thanks..:
